How To Compost

If you don't know how to compost or haven't ever tried your hand at it, it's really not that hard to do. And you can save tons of garbage from ending up in the landfill. You basically take all of your food wastes, except for things like grease and citrus peels, and pile them up in a compost bin and let mother nature take care of it, for the most part. It does need a little stirring every now and then to aerate the pile, but that isn't so hard unless you're really tending to a large amount of wastes.

So what can you put in a compost bin? Here's a short list of what can be added to your compost bin:

Yard waste like dead grass and leaves.
Food scraps like banana peels or even whole rotten bananas, tomato peels, celery tips, etc.
Shredded paper
Cardboard
Old potting soil
Weeds (make sure your compost heats up enough to kill any weed seeds!)
Old pumpkins and chopped up corn stalks
Some people compost their own wastes, but that one would be up to each individual!
